Youngsters brave the winds at unveiling

Youngsters braved the winds to make the most of a free fun family day that also saw the unveiling of new facilities at Knightwood Leisure Centre earlier this week.

A skate competition, archery, an obstacle course and a bouncy castle were all on offer to the families who attended the event, which was put on to showcase some of the centre’s facilities, run by Places Leisure.

Over the past 12 months, the leisure centre has also benefitted from refurbished tennis courts and the installation of new outdoor gym equipment, which was unveiled at the Knightwood Active event on August 10.

Valley Park councillors Alan Dowden and Christopher Thom cut the ribbon to officially open the equipment to the public.

Councillor Thom, said:

It’s fantastic to see the changes and refurbishments to all the facilities at Knightwood Leisure Centre and to be able to host a free family event for the community is even better.

Everything looks state-of-the-art and I’m very grateful to Places Leisure for making it all possible.

Councillor Dowden added:

The strong winds were far from ideal but it was brilliant to see families making the most of what is on offer here. It’s exactly what the leisure centre is for so I’m pleased the community is enjoying it.
