Winton students have spent the past few weeks preparing for the Centenary of the end of World War 1 on Sunday 11 November
Year 8 students have spent their lesson time learning about the conflict in detail. This has included hearing the experiences of a guest speaker with first hand family experience of the war.
A group of students are also lucky enough to have obtained tickets to a unique production on Michael Mopurgo’s Private Peaceful at Winchester Theatre. The story is about a soldier called Thomas “Tommo” Peaceful, who is looking back on his life from the trenches of World War I in France.
Students and staff have worked hard to contribute to the Andover 215 Project which focuses especially on those who “ fell “ from Andover and are remembered on the Andover War Memorial. A special display of all the art work created in the community was held on the Vigo Recreation Field on Saturday 10 November
Winton have an individual contribution from Year 11 student, Emily Pragnell where she has captured the haunting face of a soldier.
All students have contributed to another soldier by designing small soldier templates which make up the larger figure
Finally, Winton staff were asked to contribute to a ” earth ” piece of art which uses the idea of the land on which the soldiers fell as the focus
A fitting ” Lest We Forget ” banner has also been created by the technology department, around which students will entwine their individually designed poppies as a mark of remembrance.
