Jacksplace Jestival

Winchester band, The Moorside, spark joy as they perform at Jestival at Jacksplace hospices for young adults

Young adults, carers, nurses and local bands all came together recently for Jacksplace’s first ever music festival, Jestival!

On Saturday 6th July, the Jacksplace garden was transformed with teepees, stalls and colourful decorations for Jestival. The one day event, hosted exclusively for the young adults staying at Jacksplace, featured live music from Portsmouth artist, Fugitive Orchestra, who rocked the crowd with his fuse of beatboxing, singing, guitar and live-looping.

Local Winchester band, The Moorside, also entertained the young adults with well-known Indie pop hits, as well as posing for photos with Jacksplace fans. Singing Stu (Stuart Goodeve), who regularly comes into the hospices to play music for the children and young adults, also performed at the festival.

Additional entertainment included candy floss, sweets and popcorn stalls, a photo booth, a well-stocked bar, fun fair games, a massage therapy tent and a glitter, hair and face paint stall of which staff and young adults enjoyed alike, including nurse, Dan, and Play Team Leader, Huw, who both sported glitter beards throughout the day. The hospice catering team also hosted a barbeque throughout the day in the hospice’s new BBQ hut.

Play Team Leader, Huw Bromage, said:

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved for making our first ever Jacksplace festival a success! A special thank you goes out to the volunteers who gave up their time on the day to man the stalls, and the local bands that also volunteered their time. The food was a particular highlight, cooked in our brand new BBQ hut in the Jacksplace garden by our wonderfully talented kitchen team, as was my glitter beard!

We had brilliant feedback from the young adults at Jacksplace who really enjoyed the day, and particularly enjoyed the live music and all of the staff getting into the spirit, with festival dress code and glitter face paints!

Jacksplace is the only hospice for young adults in the region, offering care and support specifically for young adults aged 16 and over. It is a space where young adults can get the independence they often crave, with time away from home, shared with other young people of a similar age and possibly similar life experiences.
