Wendy, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016, has compiled a series of moving and thought-provoking watercolour paintings and artefacts to convey her personal experience of diagnosis, treatment and recovery.  As well as acknowledging the new medical terms she had to learn and the way cancer changed her body, the exhibition explores Wendy’s emotional journey, ranging from denial and realisation, to courage and hope.

She says:

One of my exhibits, The Japanese Pot, made me connect with the Japanese concept of mending pots with gold. The broken pot actually becomes more precious, even though it is flawed. The point is to recognise the history of an object and to visibly incorporate the repair into the new piece, rather than disguising it.  Thinking like this and interpreting my feelings through art helped me through my cancer journey. I didn’t start painting out of self-pity. It was to convey a visual meaning of everything that happened in the hope it would be of value to others.

The exhibition will be held at 91-95 Winchester Road, Chandler’s Ford, SO53 2GG. Wendy will be there to discuss her artwork.

Entrance and parking is free, and there will be tea and cake available. Any donations will go directly to providing practical and emotional support to local people living with cancer.
