Despite the pandemic, Viewfinders of Romsey Camera Club has commenced its 2020/21 session and recently held its annual Nature Trophy competition online. The judge, Chris Hutchinson, found it very difficult to pick the winners from the sixty-two entries which included images ranging from insects to a giraffe, lion and tiger as well as birds and plant life. Eventually he chose Gerald Ponting’s image “Garlic Shadow” as the winner. Terry Jamieson took silver with “Copper on Daisy” and Stephen Cooper took bronze with “Autumn Leaves 2”. Stephen also won two Seals of Merit and further Seals of Merit went to Lizzie Dutfield, Margaret Cooper and Julie Cousens.
Along with the club’s annual exhibition in July, its presentation evening had to be cancelled and some trophy winners could not be announced. Although it was not practical to complete the Print Photographer of the Year competition, we can report that Malcolm Richardson won the Projected Digital Image (PDI) Photographer of the Year award. In addition, Stuart Bennett won the print league trophy with “Cityscape” and Julie Cousens won the PDI league trophy with “River Otter”.
At present the club is meeting online and this has enabled it to join with a club in Somerset for some meetings and have speakers & judges from further afield than is normally practicable. In normal circumstances Viewfinders meets most Tuesdays at the Jubilee Hall, New Road, Timsbury and new members, regardless of photographic experience, are always welcome.
