Retaining regional connectivity is key. Easy access to Southampton Children’s Hospital is vital. The hospital, which is the regional centre of excellence for the South of England including the Channel Islands, serves a community of 1.3 million children and young people. If Southampton Airport’s runway extension plans are turned down, and larger, more environmentally friendly planes are unable to land, it is likely the region will lose this vital transport link.
Closure would mean longer journeys for families travelling to Southampton from the Channel Islands to be with their children receiving treatment at the hospital. The Murray Parish Trust supports Southampton Airport’s expansion to ensure the continued connectivity of the region and vital access to the excellent paediatric facilities here in Southampton.
