On Wednesday 20th November, pupils at Hatherden CE Primary School had the exciting opportunity of attending ‘Rockpool School’, run by Marine Biologist Nicola Everitt from Whitley Bay.
During the day, pupils had the incredible chance of handling crabs (including hermit crabs), starfish, urchin and sea snails; learning about the different marine life in a fun and informative manner. Nicola spent time answering pupils’ questions whilst sharing marine objects (including seaweed, shells and sand) with the children who finished the day by making their very own rockpools to take home.
This amazing, hands-on experience, brought to life the children’s recent English work whilst giving them time to connect with nature in a magical ‘awe and wonder’ moment which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

I had so much fun at Rockpool School! I loved seeing Nicola’s little friends from the ocean, my favourite part was holding a starfish because it kept sticking to me!
