Unity announced this week a further £2,000 in funding courtesy of the Simplyhealth Community Fund, Winchester.
Simplyhealth is the UK’s leading provider of health cash plans, Denplan dental payment plans and pet health plans. The funding will enable the continuation of a social prescription service in North Baddesley surgery where people needing that extra bit of help, are referred to a Unity Support Worker who can then link them to other community based organisations or can provide assistance with additional help such as benefits claim forms or financial budgeting.
Unity, who also provide a similar service within Andover surgeries, have helped more than 30 people in the North Baddesley area which is having a dramatic impact with less GP appointments and prescribed medication.
Lesley Shenton, General Manager said:
This service has made such an improvement to the lives of local people and to the surgery who is seeing a marked benefit in terms of relieving pressures on the NHS. Some people just need help as they are lonely but there are others for whom life is far more of a challenge and need some practical help which does not require a health appointment necessarily. We are really grateful that Simplyhealth have seen the benefit of this service and are willing to support this essential work.
Jo Longman, Chair of Simplyhealth’s Winchester Community Fund and Director of HR and Engagement said:
By helping the local community to access vital support and advice through Unity, more individuals and their families will be guided to the most helpful and suitable support services available to them. Unity helps to relieve the pressure on an overburdened NHS, improving quality of care for everyone, and ensuring that vulnerable individuals quickly receive the support they need. We’re delighted to support Unity and look forward to seeing the positive impact this will have in the North Baddesley area.
