Romsey Rapids Sports Complex

Over £1.5 million to be spent on refurbishing Romsey Rapids Pool Hall

Romsey Rapids Sports Complex
is upgrading its Leisure pool changing area and Health and Wellbeing facilities. The pool hall is due to close for 15 weeks after October half term for a refurbishment and essential maintenance works. The Gym, Exercise Classes, the Toning Centre, treatment rooms and Costa will remain open during this period.

The works to be carried out will include remodelling and installation of brand new wet side changing rooms. In response to customer feedback, the works will include additional family changing cubicles, new larger lockers, a shoe removal area, vanity area, poolside showers, new toilets and a new tiled floor. There will be essential maintenance carried out during this period to the key features in the pool hall.  Supporting the ambition to create a more active and healthier community, remodelling of the health suite will also be taking place to improve the wellbeing facilities, with a customer consultation due to commence in the next few days.

Community and Leisure Portfolio Holder, Councillor Tony Ward, said:

Our residents deserve access to high quality leisure facilities, so I welcome the much-needed improvements to the pool hall, health suite and wet side changing rooms. Though we regret the disruption the closure will cause, we hope that customers will be pleased with the enhancements and the long-term benefits they will deliver.

Places Leisure, Area Manager, Peter Leamore:

We hope our customers are excited about the impending new improved wet side facilities at Romsey Rapids, whilst also broadening the appeal amongst the local community for greater health and wellbeing facilities. Unfortunately, the works could not be carried without the closure, we have tried to select a quieter time of the year to minimise disruption and it is anticipated that the pool will reopen in time for February half term.

Members will be able to use the pools at the new Places Leisure Eastleigh, River Park Leisure Centre and Andover Leisure Centre during the closure period.  Swimming lesson customers can transfer on to the Places Leisure Eastleigh swim school (where places are available) or freeze their payments, both options offer a guaranteed place on the scheme once the pool re-opens. Swim School pupils will have free swimming access to the pools above during the closure.

The wet side refurbishment at Romsey Rapids follows on from the recent £500,000 investment to upgrade the Gym and Studios.
