Mustangs

The Mustangs rock The Lights Arena this April

The Mustangs are one of the most established blues rock bands in the UK, with a reputation for blistering live shows and ground-breaking original albums. They will be live and local at The Lights on Saturday, 7 April.

The Mustangs are a Hampshire formed band, led by the stunning voice and slashing guitar of livewire frontman Adam Norsworthy. The razor-sharp rhythm section of Jon Bartley (drums) and Ben McKeown (bass) is one of the tightest on the circuit. The line-up is completed by R’n’B veteran Derek Kingaby on vintage blues harp. Together they have played and headlined a wide variety of gigs and blues festivals across the UK and Europe.

Chiefly influenced by the British blues rock bands of the 1960s, such as Led Zeppelin and Fleetwood Mac, as well as Dr. Feelgood, the Mustangs also draw on more traditional blues influences such as Muddy Waters, Elmore James and Robert Johnson. The band’s use of blues harp, played by Derek Kingaby, adds to an authentic, traditional blues sound.

The Mustangs have now released 10 albums, including a live album and a Best of, featuring personal choice from the band’s first 15 years. In 2016 drummer Jon Bartley was elected as joint leader of the National Green Party of the UK.

In April 2017 the band released its tenth album, Just Passing Through, co-produced with House of Tone’s Wayne proctor and Steve Wright. The album’s concept is of a metaphorical train journey through love life, faith and mortality. It was a huge critical success, with some reviewers hailing it as ‘intelligent blues with warmth’ and ‘an eclectic masterpiece’.

For a truly electrifying evening of blues, look no further than The Lights on 7 April.
