Meet the Test Valley Business Awards 2018 finalists: New Business of the Year Award

Your chance to learn more about the TVBAwards2018 New Business of the Year Award finalists…

With the Test Valley Business Awards widely anticipated Gala Dinner & Awards ceremony The Museum of Army Flying a week away, the spotlight is on the New Business of the Year Award finalists.

The New Business of the Year Award serves to recognise any business which began trading after January 2014 and has shown continued growth since start-up, has been able to meet and overcome challenges, and demonstrates originality.

The finalists in this category for 2018, are:

  • Coco’s Canine Crèche
  • Vista Glaze Ltd.
  • vivaMOS Ltd.

Councillor David Drew, Economic Development & Tourism Portfolio Holder at Test Valley Borough Council commented:

As ever, judging the New Business Award category has been incredibly difficult because of the exceptional variety of businesses which have entered this year. At the same time it has been a privilege to get to know some of those enterprises and the people working so hard to establish them. The Council supports new businesses in many ways including grants and expert advice and is therefore proud to sponsor this award. I congratulate all of our entrants and wish them every success for the future.

The Test Valley Business Awards Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony, where this year’s winners will be announced, represents a great opportunity to hear about and celebrate the success of just some fascinating enterprises. It also allows guests to network with other local businesses and gain valuable publicity to promote themselves.

Dan Cathie, CEO of vivaMOS Ltd., commented on being shortlisted:

We’re delighted to have reached this stage in the competition and to be recognised as one of the finalists. As a technology start-up, it’s a real pleasure to be recognised as a new business within the region, developing products into the X-ray detector market. We believe our ideas will help shape the future of medical X-ray imaging.

Paul Howe, Managing Director of Vista Glaze Ltd also remarked:

It doesn’t seem that long ago that we received a £750 grant from Test Valley Council to help us get started so to recognised and nominated for the Best New Business really shows how far we have come in such a short time. It’s very exciting and we feel proud to be in the final 3.

Finally, Paula Staff of Coco’s Canine Crèche said:

To say we are thrilled to be selected as finalists for the New Business of the Year Award is a complete understatement.  Creating Coco’s has been a labour of love and incredible hard work for all involved.

The fact that we have reached the final is amazing and testament to our staff, volunteers and of course our wonderful customers – the owners and dogs themselves.  Our little business has grown  to over 100 dogs having been registered with us since we opened in May 2017 and we now find ourselves pretty much at capacity.

As a lifelong dog lover I have wanted to open a facility like Coco’s for some time and redundancy in December 2016 allowed me to do this.  Our creche is a home from home for all the dogs, we describe it as a canine indoor play park but it is so much more – we provide enrichment, basic training and love and care as well as the normal dog walks and games throughout the day.

We also run a series of other fun events including Puppy Socialisation Parties, training for dogs of all ages and even Dog Birthday Parties.  We will continue to do the very best for our loyal customers and hope to welcome many more over the coming months and years.  Thank you to everyone for your support during our first year in business, it means the world!

Now in its 14th year, the Test Valley Business Awards – run by a steering group of volunteers – has become a well-established platform to champion business excellence. It is a great way of shining a light particularly on the many new and small businesses in the region, all doing interesting and valuable work, but often out of sight.
