Local over 50’s group receives donation from Waitrose Community Matters green token scheme

Cllr John Cockaday runs an over 50’s club and this plays an important part of the local community helping to bring people of this age group together. Recently the group was 1 of 3 charitable causes in Waitrose green token Community Matters boxes in the local branch and each month Waitrose donates £1,000 between 3 local good causes that you choose.

Due to support from Waitrose customers placing their tokens in the club’s Community Matters box, the group were pleased to receive a cheque for £338.00. The members are delighted as this funding means they are able to celebrate it’s 6th year anniversary with a birthday party which includes a trip to The Lights to enjoy a theatre performance. Socialising is definitely a beneficial part of this over 50’s club as it helps members to keep active and engaged within the community that most certainly helps to reduce the possibility of loneliness and social isolation within this age group.

Cllr John Cockaday said:

He was overwhelmed receiving such a generous amount and would like to thank everyone who used their token to support them

The over 50’s club meets every other Wednesday 2.30pm- 4pm at King Arthur’s Hall.
