Keeping sprightly – advice during Covid-19 for older residents in Hampshire

Taking care of your health and well-being at home has become more important than ever, says Hampshire County Council, as it issues advice to help older residents stay well physically and mentally during the Covid-19 crisis and beyond.

Councillor Judith Grajewski, Hampshire County Council’s Executive Member for Public Health, said:

Whilst you should not hesitate to seek help when needed, there are lots of simple things you can do at home to lessen your risk of having to see the GP or go to hospital. For example, falls and fractures are a common and serious health issue faced by older people and can lead to hospitalisation, so it makes sense to see what you can do to reduce your risk of falls, while eating a balanced diet and keeping well hydrated are important for maintaining general good health. Keeping preventable problems from becoming more serious is key.

The advice for keeping well at home covers a range of topics including staying active every day, maintaining strength and balance, keeping the home safe to avoid falls, looking after your mental health and well-being, taking medication correctly and staying hydrated. It features tips and guidance from the NHS and other trusted organisations to help older people maximise their chances of staying in good health in lockdown.
