Furzey Gardens announce the re-opening of the Tea Rooms on 16th February 2019, following a winter break. Little shoots of greenery are starting to poke their heads through the soil and buds are beginning to swell, around the 10 acres of idyllic, informal woodland gardens, ready for all ages to explore.
Open every day throughout the February half-term, then Fri-Sun until April, visitors can enjoy hot snacks (including jacket potatoes, soup and paninis), sandwiches, cakes and refreshments. A range of gifts are on sale, including beautiful wooden and ceramic gifts crafted in the Minstead Trust Training Workshops. Visitors can always find a bargain amongst the plants on sale, all of which have been brought on in the Furzey Nursery. The Tea Rooms, Gardens and Nursery all provide training opportunities for people with learning disabilities to develop workplace skills and experience.
Furzey Gardens has been undertaking a lake transformation thanks to Head Gardener Pete White and a team of volunteers. Following surface desilting, the introduction of ‘beach areas’ over the next few weeks will allow visitors to head right down to the water’s edge and the construction of a jetty will provide guests with a new perspective of the woodland gardens for 2019.
Improvements to the play area have continued over the winter and younger visitors can experience an additional level on the climbing structure, and also for those intrepid climbers two designated climbing trees have been introduced.
The calendar of events at the Furzey Gardens commences with half-term creative activities including fairy and castle door painting from 18 – 22nd February.
On 23-24th March, a Local Residents Weekend invites those with a SO43 postcode to come and enjoy Furzey Gardens free of charge, to meet the team and find out about the charity’s plans for the year ahead before the flowers burst into bloom.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to pre-book a Prosecco Afternoon Tea for £19.95 per person for Mother’s Day on 31st March from 10am – 4pm.
In April our regular monthly activities include a Tuesday guided walk and the return of the popular Furzey Thursday Toddle which encourages parents with pre-school children to explore the gardens and join in all-weather garden-themed activities with our volunteers.
Single, multi-person or family memberships can also be purchased allowing free entrance to the grounds all year round, 10% off purchases at the Tea Rooms as well as discounts on some Furzey Gardens events. Memberships can be purchased online here.
