Be Happy, Harry Hippo

February half term fun at The Lights

The first half term of the year is almost upon us and The Lights has a packed programme to keep children entertained and occupied this February.

Storytelling, arts and crafts, dance, drama and children’s theatre all feature, for children from 1 to 12 years of age.

Roll up, roll up for Circus Skills Workshops on Monday, 18 February for ages 5-7 (must be accompanied) from 10am and ages 8-12 (without accompaniment) from 1pm – watch a short demonstration from Circus Allstars and then take to the stage in our main auditorium and have a go at a variety of circus skills including tight-wire, diablo, juggling, poi, stilts, gymnastic ribbon and spinning plates!  Each workshop last approximately 2 hours.

For something a little more crafty then why not design and decorate your own t-shirt on Tuesday, 19 February.  Again, two workshops are running for different age groups: 10.30am for ages 5-7 (under 7’s must be accompanied by an adult) and 2pm for ages 8-12 (without accompaniment).  Learn different techniques to decorate your own t-shirt.

Then for younger ones aged 2-5 (must be accompanied) join Amanda as she brings the classic tale, The Tiger Who Came to Tea to life in an interactive storytelling workshop at 9.30 or 11am on Wednesday, 20 February.  Have fun joining in with familiar songs and rhymes, pretending to be the tiger and eating up all the food in Sophie’s house!

Finally, round the week off in style with I Can Sing a Rainbow music and movement workshop for ages 1-3 years (must be accompanied).  Amanda is back with a workshop full of everyone’s favourite songs and rhymes about colour.  Dance with ribbons, play with the parachute and have lots of interactive fun!

As if that wasn’t enough, come and be uplifted and inspired by Hodgepodge Theatre with the enchanting tale of Be Happy, Harry Hippo on 21 February at 11am.  This is family theatre at its best.  Harry Hippo has lost his smile and can’t seem to get it back.  No matter what he tries or where he looks he can’t find it anywhere.  What will he do?  Suitable for ages 3+

Encourage creativity, activity and the power of children’s imaginations this February with a visit to The Lights.
