Lovers of classical ballet will adore the haunting Giselle, which heads to Theatre Royal Winchester on Tuesday 31 March.
One of the greatest ballets of all time, it is the tragically romantic tale of a young girl who falls deeply in love. However she is soon deceived for the man she loves is betrothed to another. Desperate, the young girl kills herself as she cannot live without him. The Queen of the Wilis – with the ghosts of other young girls who die before their wedding nights – condemns the lover to dance to his death and only able to be saved by the spirit of the girl, Giselle.
Brought to the stage by classical touring dance company, Ballet Theatre UK – who have performed renditions of Swan Lake and The Nutcracker to Alice In Wonderland and Pinocchio – this, their latest production, features a full Corps de Ballet of 24 international dancers, with critically acclaimed Principal Dancers and the stunning music of ballet and opera composer, Adolphe Adam.
First performed in Paris in 1841, this classic ballet transformed the dance world and has never lost its popularity.A post show chat follows the performance.
