Experience a little magic in your neighbourhood this winter

This November experience a little magic in your neighbourhood and take part in Test Valley Borough Council’s Window Wanderland experience.

The project invites schools, shops, businesses, and first and foremost, local residents to decorate windows in the form of a light box. During a set time each evening at the end of November, the windows will be switched on to create a nightly trail of unique and shining artworks to follow.

Residents are encouraged to take part as window makers and to open their curtains and create window displays to amuse, entertain, and create a little magic for all to share. It is completely free to take part and everyone is welcome.  A display could be as simple as a candle, book or fairy-lights in a window, it could recreate some lockdown artwork or share a favourite thing about winter. Anything goes… as long as it’s family friendly!  Together these windows will form a wonderful winter walking trail, which everyone can participate in by coming out to enjoy.

Leader of Test Valley Borough Council, Councillor Phil North, said:

Although this year has thrown up many challenges for people, one of the silver linings has been the way in which whole communities have come together and the way that new friendships and support networks have developed across neighbourhoods.  By taking part in the Window Wanderland project – either by creating windows or simply enjoying the walking trails, you will be helping to keep this community spirit alive in our town.

A series of free workshops will be taking place during autumn half term and early November to help with creative ideas, but if residents can’t take part then there will also be an online video available during November.  Residents who want to take part and would like to be kept informed of workshop dates can email events@testvalley.gov.uk to register interest.

This year’s Window Wanderland light trail is planned for 28 – 29 November between 5pm and 9pm.  It is time to get creative!
