The Hampshire Woodcarvers are an enthusiastic group of people who meet once a month. Although carving is the main aim of the day, time is also spent on exchanging ideas, hints and tips. We also have an hour tutorial given by a member on carving techniques. We have members of all abilities, both male and female, ranging from beginners to those who exhibit their carvings in national exhibitions.
Meetings take place on the first Sunday of the month from 10am to 4pm. (In May it is usually the second Sunday to avoid the Bank Holiday). We meet at Michelmersh and Timsbury, Jubilee hall, which is 2 miles from Romsey on the A3057. At the December meeting we have a Christmas Buffet lunch and our usual competition, for which a trophy is given.
We can provide tools on loan for those who wish to start carving with us and we have some excellent tutors.
Each year we attend a few events, both large and small, to publicise our work and our craft. We do not sell any items at these events. We attend Zion Hill Copse Woodfair, Bursledon Brickworks and Andover.
Membership is currently £25 per year for membership of the British Woodcarvers Association, some of which comes back to the local club, and £20 per year for membership of the Hampshire Woodcarvers. This £20 covers the cost of hiring the hall, tea and coffee at the meetings. Membership of the BWA provides you with full Public Liability insurance. There are currently about 25 BWA members in Hampshire, of which 20 regularly attend monthly meetings.
We have a Facebook page where we put details and photographs of our meetings. The BWA also have a web site, which is www.britishwoodcarversassociation.co.uk on this site you can also access the Hampshire branch section.
