Romsey Dementia Awareness Week

Dementia Action Week in Romsey

logo ROMDAGThis year’s ‘Dementia Action Week’ (DAW) takes place between 11-17th May. Members of Romsey Dementia Action Group (ROMDAG) are planning a jam-packed week of events, when those living with Dementia and/or their carers will be able to try out lots of different activities and treatments.

There will be fun sessions of: Zumba Gold; PomFitness; the Memory Choir; and ‘Music to Unlock Memories’; along with taster treatments of hand massages and meditation; and ‘have a go’ exercise sessionssteady & strong’ and ‘Forever Active’. There really will be something for everyone, and further events are continuing to be added. More information, and a diary for the week, is available at or, if it’s available to you, up-to-date information on all the events and activities can be found on their Facebook page ( ) or click here to view posters.

Greenbuttercup CIC runs activity groups for people living with Dementia twice a month in the Green Room at the Plaza Theatre, Romsey  (‘Arts & Crafts’ on the first Friday of the month and ‘Sensory Experiences’ on the third Friday). During DAW, they will be hosting a FREE ‘Sensory Experience’ all about ‘Bees & Honey’ on Friday, May 15th. This will take place from 10.30am. to 12.30 pm and is open to anyone, who is living with a dementia and their carer or, who is interested in finding out more about Greenbuttercup CIC’s Dementia Services.

We will have a visiting beekeeper, who will not only bring along his beekeeping gear for us to look at and try on, but also an observation hive complete with live bees. We will have different honey-based foods to taste, products to smell, and a bee-themed raffle. For a donation, participants will also be able to plant-up a pot of flowers to attract bees to their own gardens, or make a bee hotel. We will also have an Admiral Nurse present during the morning, who will be able to tell you everything there is to know about what the Admiral Nurses do and how they can help people living with Dementia.

Visitors are very welcome to drop in for a cuppa at any time and for as long as they like. So, why not come along and see what the ‘buzz’ is all about!  Parking is available behind the Plaza Theatre in the ‘unnumbered spaces’ and entry is by the side door up the accessible ramp. ROMDAG hope to see you there.

You are welcome to just turn up, but if you would like further information, please don’t hesitate to contact Pamela on: 01794 501605 or
