During the first week of March, we celebrated National Careers and Apprenticeships week.
All week, students have learnt about apprenticeships in assembly and built their knowledge on Labour Market Information (LMI) around the careers they think they want to do when they leave school.
Our Year 9 girls visited Andover College for a practical morning, learning about working in the Creative Industries getting tasters of Dance, Theatre Studies 3D design, Fashion, Film making, Graphics, Lighting Designs, Music Technology and Photography.
Feedback from the girls included:
- “this was a really helpful day as it helped me decide what I’ll take for my KS4 options, and think about further decisions that I’ll make afterwards” – Alana.
- “this opened our eyes to other subjects” – Abi, Holly and Kate
- “I learnt lots about resilience and leadership skills” – Grace
This was a really great day for our students to really explore the digital industries and meet some of the Post 18 providers too. Some of our Year 10 girls visited the Chippenham Campus of Salisbury College for a Girls into Engineering event.
We have also continued to welcome various visitors to the school for careers drop-ins. Sam for Wessex Archaeology; Charlotte from British Airways; Emma, an ex-John Hanson student who is training to be a midwife; and Matt from SCL. We were also lucky to have Lloyds Banking Group join us to share their stories of working with young people on their apprenticeship schemes.
If you have an interesting careers that you’d be happy to talk to our students about, then please do contact us on: anna.hall@jhanson.hants.sch.uk
