Can you help local musicians to achieve their dream of an ‘International Tour 2020’?

Logo. HCYWEThe Hampshire County Youth Wind Ensemble (HCYWE) is a high quality wind band run by the Hampshire Music Service (part of Hampshire County Council) and is comprised of approximately 50 student musicians of Grade 7+ standard, selected by audition.

They have a varied repertoire and impressive performance history; including events such as concerts at the Basingstoke Anvil, at the Royal Albert Hall (as part of the “Hampshire at the Hall” concert) and a performance of Joseph Phibbs’ choral drama “Rainland“.  Last month they enjoyed an all day rehearsal and concert with the Royal Marines Band, Portsmouth.

The student musicians come from all over the county, and rehearse fortnightly at Henry Beaufort School in Winchester.  Many of the current and past members come from Romsey and the surrounding areas, and also contribute to the local community with their musical skills through performances in the George’s Trust concerts, the Jane Scarth Schools’ Choir Festival concert, Romsey Festival events, membership of the Romsey Abbey choir etc.

They are now planning an exciting international educational and performance tour (‘International Tour 2020‘) for the summer of 2020.  Venues being considered are Canada and Scandinavia, where the ensemble will perform with local wind bands, visit significant landmarks and promote British culture.  The audiences in either country have a reputation of being large, knowledgeable and appreciative of wind band music.

The selection of the venue will largely being dependent on the success of fundraising by the Friends of HCYWE who are seeking to make the trip as inclusive as possible.  The money they raise will be used to support those on low incomes, transport instruments, provide in-country transport and rent larger instruments such as tubas and percussion.

Please do help by donating and contributing to this crowdfunding if you can and this can be found at www.crowdfunder.co.uk Please can you also share this link on your social media to support the cause!
