Brendoncare Park Road’s maintenance person, Jon Webb, has been described as a ‘man of many talents’. Not only does he have excellent fixing skills but he is also superb at building trusting relationships with the residents and staff at the care home in Winchester.
Jon originally worked as a mechanical design engineer in the refrigeration industry, where he worked for 32 years before moving to a garage for four years. In 2019 he decided he needed a change of career and took on the role of maintenance person at Brendoncare Park Road.
Jon Webb, said:
I have never looked back; I really enjoy working for Brendoncare and feel extremely rewarded, there are some upsetting times but mostly you see great things. I really enjoy being with the residents and the great staff team.”
Although I am always busy, I always seem to find time to talk to the residents and listen to their stories which interests me very much. I didn’t have grandparents so really enjoy sitting down for a cuppa with the residents, and hearing about ‘the good old days’.
Carole Reeves, the daughter of resident, Arthur Budd, at Brendoncare Park Road, had this to say:
Jon is a man of many talents. He seems to be able to fix anything. But in my eyes, Jon has achieved so much more! From his very first day at Brendoncare Park Road, Jon‘s kindness and ability to engage sincerely with my father shone through. He quickly developed an excellent rapport with him, showing respect and genuine interest in my father’s life and career. He has a good sense of humour and always makes time to chat and, above all, listen.
Without a doubt, Jon has supported my father with his practical skills, but above all, he has impacted on my father’s well-being by giving of his time, however busy, caring and sharing experiences and showing empathy and understanding.
Jon lives in Eastleigh and enjoys spending time with his family. His weekends are usually very busy with him helping his sons with their motor-cross passion.
Brendoncare Park Road provides nursing, respite and end-of-life care to 41 older people in Winchester. It is located in a tranquil part of Winchester and has attractive mature gardens.
