Brendoncare Clubs receives a grant from the National Emergencies Trust (NET)

Logo. BrendoncareBrendoncare Clubs, run by Winchester based charity, The Brendoncare Foundation, is delighted to announce that they have received a £5,000 grant from The National Emergencies Trust (NET). The funding has been made available from the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), and is being administered by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation (HIWCF). The grant will be used towards staff costs to pilot the re-opening of the Brendoncare Clubs across Hampshire.

Brendoncare Clubs have been temporarily closed since March 2020 and with many members living alone, Brendoncare has been helping to maintain the positive connections and friendships they enjoy through their regular clubs. There have been 11,000 contacts made to members and volunteers as part of the telephone contact and support, 153 virtual club meetings and 55 digital connection sessions.

Although the planned pilot to re-open a few clubs has now been paused due to rising infection rates; planning continues so that when the clubs are able to re-open, members and volunteers can feel safe and secure to visit the clubs again.

Sam Agnew, Head of Brendoncare Clubs, said:

This grant of £5000 from the National Emergencies Trust/DCMS will mean that we can devote the time, care and attention to ensuring the clubs can reopen safely.

We have heard from our members that since the clubs closed in March they have missed the social contact and the time with friends, the fun and laughter. We are committed to getting people back together when it is safe to do so and the support from NET and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation gives hope to our hundreds of members that this will happen.

Jonathan Cheshire OBE, HIWCF Chairman, commented:

We are delighted to be able to support Brendoncare Clubs in their work to help those in need in the local community. Local charities, community groups and voluntary organisations are providing a lifeline to those less fortunate, and it is heartening to see that these organisations have reacted so quickly and have been so resourceful in the face of the pandemic. The vital services that these organisations provide are more crucial now than ever before but are under threat more than at any other time. HIWCF is continuing to raise funding for charities across our region, for which donations can be made to the ‘We’re All Together’ Fund: virginmoneygiving.com/fund/AllTogether.

Brendoncare Clubs is a well established and trusted community service, offering a vital lifeline in Hampshire and Dorset, through the 94 clubs across 40 locations during the week and over the weekend. They offer a friendly, fun, relaxed and supportive environment where older people can meet other club members, make friends and develop strong peer support networks.
