A Window Wanderland wonder in Andover

Last weekend saw a sprinkling of magic across neighbourhoods in Andover as over 100 window makers created fabulous festive windows and illuminated them for all to enjoy.

In an initiative championed by Test Valley Borough Council and Andover Vision, residents and businesses came together to create special illuminated window displays to celebrate Christmas in a socially distanced way.  Families downloaded the trail map and chose routes to take on foot or by car to enjoy the festive fun.

The council ran a series of physical workshops prior to lockdown for approximately 30 families who wanted a little help in designing their window, and a further four virtual workshops during November for approximately 40 families.  Local companies, Lee Filters and Fusion Office Supplies kindly supported the initiative by donating materials.

Leader of Test Valley Borough Council, Councillor Phil North, said:

“Following on from the wonderful community spirit fostered by making and displaying rainbows during the pandemic, the Window Wanderland project sought to recapture this collective imagination and encourage families and businesses to get creative in the lead up to Christmas.”

For those who were unable to enjoy the trail at the weekend a montage of photographs from windows around Andover have been uploaded on facebook: facebook.com/WindowWanderlandAndover

Continuing with the festive theme, there will be an online event to celebrate the virtual Christmas Tree Festival on 12 and 13 December.  More than 70 wooden Christmas trees have been decorated by 17 local schools who will film and photograph the decorative process, and which will then be collated and shared on Test Valley Borough Council social media channels.  For more information about the Christmas Tree Festival visit Facebook Event page
