Year 8 Students start the year in a magical way at Harry Potter World

Winton Community Academy Year 8 Students start the year in a magical way at Harry Potter World

On Thursday 13th September Winton year eight students started the year in a magical way with a trip to Harry Potter studios. The students are studying extracts from the books in the series as part of their year eight curriculum were blown away by the incredible sets and mysterious artefacts. Starting on the journey by moving through the cinema screen through the front door or Hogwarts into the great hall, then traveling through the forbidden forest with giant spiders swinging from the ceiling and concluding with a a trip down Diagonally to buy some chocolate frogs.

Many of the year eights were all in our newly named Rowling House after the great author herself. As Winton has grown in size we have had to introduce a new house which the student got to name. They originally wanted Hufflepuff, Raveclaw, Griffindoor and Slytherin but this was rejected as the school wanted four inspiratinsional figures. After a long process led by the students the winning names were Farah, Hawking, Malal and Rowling.

Watching the awe and wonder on students faces as the saw the full scale model of Hogwarts and jumped on the Hogwarts Express was a joy to behold. As a school we believe that learning should take place in the classroom and beyond and firmly believe in relevant trips to inspire young people. This was a great trip linking to our literacy drive and engaging students in the magical world  of Harry Potter. The students were an absolute delight even after one too many Butter beers in ‘The Three Broomsticks.  Nathan Thomas Headteacher.
