Year 9 Art students recently took part in a visit to Roche Court sculpture garden in East Winterslow. The visit formed part of this term’s work on sculpture.
Education officers Emma and Beth gave a very detailed and interesting tour of the grounds, giving an insight into how the sculptures were made and the ideas behind their creation. Year 9 were very lucky to be encouraged to touch specific sculptures and even lie down on them!
The tour included a visit to the gallery where work by Anthony Caro was exhibited. Our students found the visit fascinating and did not want to leave. Both Emma and Beth commented on the high level of engagement students showed and commended their excellent behaviour. The Art department has been invited to take part in a larger project with Roche Court in the Autumn term which will see us returning to study the sculpture further, create our own work and take part in an exhibition.
