Winchester City Council celebrates a year of supporting local businesses

Since Winchester City Council teamed up with Enterprise First in June last year, to offer free advice, training and networking 270 local businesses have benefited from more than 800 hours of business advice.

For the cost of a drink, businesses are welcome to attend the informal monthly networking sessions which have, to date, been held in Alresford, Bishop’s Waltham, Denmead, Wickham and Winchester city centre.

Cllr Rob Humby, Winchester City Council’s Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Business Partnerships, said:

We are delighted with the success of the first year of this service which has helped businesses across our District to set up, secure funding from central and local government and to grow and expand. An entrepreneurial business located in my own ward, Asisters, has recently used our support to launch an online platform to help people remain independent in their own homes.

Karen Budden and Rachael Alpha, Co-Founders of Asisters Ltd, added:

From the very beginning to the launch of our business, we have received ongoing support and advice from both Winchester City Council and Enterprise First.

Support has ranged from a choice of excellent courses and networking to attend, access to a personal business advisor and being awarded financial support from the council to fund further software development.

Altogether this support has certainly been a springboard for our success to date, including being shortlisted for a Digital Innovation Award in the Winchester Business Awards and a steady growth trend.

Networking events are usually held on the third Thursday of every month and the next event is ‘A little marketing goes a long way‘ will be held at No5 Bridge Street in Winchester on 9th October from 10am to 1pm. On 17 October there will HR – the nuts and bolts for small business owners at Arlebury Park at The Avenue in Alresford from 10am to 1pm.
