Supporting Hampshire’s young people – decision due this autumn on grant funding

A decision to allocate almost £1 million of Children’s Services grant funding to help benefit youth support across Hampshire – including £164,000 to support young carers across the county – will be considered by Hampshire County Council’s Executive Lead Member for Children’s Services, Councillor Keith Mans, this autumn.

If agreed, the projects to be funded would be delivered as part of a new Family Support Service. The Family Support Service will bring together the work of early help hubs, children’s centre services and youth support services in to a single, joined-up service for vulnerable families with children aged 0-19 years (and young adults with learning difficulties or disability up to age 25). The service will align with the Supporting (Troubled) Families Programme.

Commenting ahead of his Decision Day, Councillor Keith Mans, Executive Lead Member for Children’s Services said:

Before agreeing the funding grants, I will want to be satisfied that the providers are going to deliver the services needed to meet the differing priorities for early help services at a local level, and will support vulnerable young people, that is to say, those most in need.

Subject to approval, the grants to voluntary sector organisations would enable the delivery of targeted support and specific intervention, on a one to one basis if needed, to young people up to 19 years of age.

In total, 53 grants have been recommended for approval. Applications vary, with some from single organisations in a district, organisations seeking to provide services in more than one district, and organisations applying for funding to provide services on a countywide basis.

Councillor Mans will consider the grants that have successfully met the criteria at the Executive Lead Member for Children’s Services Decision Day on 11 November 2016, where he will decide whether or not to approve them.
