Local people still have time to sign up and be part of the nationwide team of swimmers at the highly successful Swimathon fundraiser this weekend.
The event, which this year is part of Sport Relief, is being held at Andover Leisure Centre on Sunday [20 March] from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.
Swimathon is a nationwide swimming challenge that encourages swimmers up and down the UK to swim a variety of challenge distances at their local pool to raise money for charity.
This year Swimathon is urging people to show their colours by allocating swimmers across the whole country into separate teams, recognisable by different coloured swim caps.
The cap colours will be allocated by swim speed and distance.People can choose to take on an individual challenge of 1.5k, 2.5km or 5k. Or they can team up and complete a 1.5k or 5k together.
Tammy Dewhurst, Assistant Manager Sport at Andover Leisure Centre, said:
Swimathon is a fun way to raise money for a good cause whilst keeping fit and active.
Swimming is a great and gentle option for those who have physical limitations or suffer from arthritis. It can also ease muscle and joint pain, improve asthma and cholesterol levels, and lower the risk of diabetes.
If you’re raising money at the same time as exercising and achieving a goal, it’s a bonus all round, and everyone feels great.”
The event is open to people of any age, and there’s no need to be a strong swimmer.
To enter the event, go to www.swimathon.org and select Andover Leisure Centre as the chosen swimming pool.
