Start the festive season with the Military Wives Choirs; coming ‘Home for Christmas’

Three of the Military Wives Choirs will be performing festive Christmas classics and some of their most well-loved repertoire on 21st November at Winchester Cathedral.  A concert not to be missed, it is set to be both a dazzling and atmospheric adding to the magical experience in Winchester at Christmas time.

Following the enormous success of No. 1 single ‘Wherever You Are’ in 2012, Military Wives Choirs have been set up across the country and abroad, bringing more and more women from within the military community closer together through singing.

The Military Wives Choirs of Winchester, Middle Wallop and Tidworth are very much looking forward to the upcoming concert, with members recalling memories of their own experiences of Winchester at Christmas time:

What I love about Christmas in Winchester is the market. The atmosphere is just wonderful and it’s in such a beautiful setting around the cathedral. (Michelle Harper)

Winchester is a big contrast to the atmosphere at the coast where I live. Walking through the square with the sights, sounds and smells brings Christmas to life! (Sally Hardy)

Their rehearsals have been solely focused on Christmas since August for the ladies to prepare for the tour, especially as it coincides with an upcoming album release. Musical Director Lauren Newman admits to working the ladies extra hard to get them ‘Cathedral ready’ commenting:

It’s such a prestigious venue; the setting alongside the music we have prepared and the acoustics make for a wonderful evening.

Some of the ladies have performed in the Cathedral previously, however this collaboration of three choirs makes this concert particularly special.

Winchester’s choir Co-ordinator, Victoria Cashmore, comments that:

This event is by far the most special yet! It is our own tour in our Garrison Cathedral. Even more special is that events like these bring ladies from other choirs together; exactly what the Military Wives Choirs ethos sets out to do. To share the evening with Tidworth and Middle Wallop and in a setting as beautiful as Winchester Cathedral is simply humbling.

Winchester ladies unanimously agree they are honoured to have the opening night of the Cathedral Tour, as well as an opportunity to pre-sell their new album with its title track ‘Home for Christmas’ due to be officially released on the 25th November.

The choir concluded by saying:

We really are looking forward to entertaining the audience on what will undoubtedly be a magical evening in a truly enchanting venue.
