The humorous love story of a single-minded yet gentle man with a passion for plants, this charming one man show has entranced audiences around the country. Giles Shenton, as Old Herbaceous, keeps us engrossed, entertained, amused and emotionally engaged. Old Herbaceous is an acute and sometimes hilarious observation of relationships between the classes in a gentler, simpler age. Sprinkled with witticisms and epithets the evening blossoms into gentle humour much in the traditionally understated English style of the early 20th century.

Per Piacere Chamber Orchestra | SAT 4 FEB 7.30PM | TICKETS £9/£7 CON

 

Per Piacere are celebrating their 10th anniversary this year. Many of the orchestra are founder members including the leader Chris Knox and the conductor Paul Ingram. The orchestra continues to draw its core repertoire from the Classical and early Romantic periods.

 

 

Phillip Henry & Hannah Martin | THU 9 FEB 8PM | TICKETS £16

 

Winners of 2014’s BBC Radio Two Folk Award for Best Duo, Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin, have come a long way on their journey. The last 18 months have been their busiest to date. They recorded a concert, toured with folk legend Seth Lakeman, attended Folk Alliance in Kansas City, and bookings for Canada and Australia in 2016 swiftly followed. Watershed, Henry and Martin’s keenly an-ticipated third studio album, is their most emotionally charged, personal and per-tinent work to date. A collection of 12 inspired original songs and tunes, rec-orded live with The Watershed Band in Devon’s Blackdown Hills, it centres around the idea of turning points.

Tom Davies and Pat Twigg are two ordinary people with an amazing gift. They have achieved a wide recognition from their unique ability to communicate with those no longer with us in the physical, making the process both enlightening, inspiring and entertaining. Their sincerity and desire to help is reflected within the many messages they have given and continue to give, to those looking for answers, that much needed comfort and closure over the loss of loved ones and life’s many dilemmas. On this their second outing to Hanger Farm, join them for your chance to witness the phenomena that is Mediumship. Be-fuddled mum-to-be Bridget Jones (Reneé Zellweger) must figure out which man in her life is the father of her child. Now a fortysomething news producer, she discovers that she is pregnant however, she isn’t sure if the baby’s father is Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), her on-off boyfriend or Jack Qwant (Patrick Dempsey), her new American love interest. Stompin’ Dave & Sam Kelly

Stompin’ Dave teams up with award winning drummer Sam Kelly for a feast of blues and boogie in the barn. Described by Maverick Magazine as “one of the world’s greatest performers“ and Blues In Britain as “a downright genius”, Dorset based Stompin’ Dave is a vocalist, multi instrumentalist and dancer. London based Sam Kelly has been voted into Blues In Britain magazine Gallery of the Greats as a five-times winner of the UK Drummer of the Year award. Sam has recorded albums with Gary Moore, Ruby Turner, Rory McLeod and Stan Webb. Dave and Sam’s first album together Live From The Sticks released in 2015 received excellent reviews. Blues In Britain describing the disc as “a rampaging set of electric blues” and praising “the rapport and sheer enjoyment of these two fine musicians operating in tandem.” Blues Matters concluded the album was “nothing short of classic juke-joint blues from the sticks.”

 

Comedy Club 4 Kids! MON 20 FEB 2PM | TICKETS £10/£7/£28 FAMILY OF 4

 

Since 2005, the Comedy Club 4 Kids has been getting the best stand-ups and sketch acts from the international circuit to do their thing for an audience of children (aged 6+) and their families… but without the rude bits! A decade later, the company has expanded from one London residency to being countrywide, running shows and workshops all over the UK from Peebles to Portsmouth, even producing a book on how to write and perform stand-up. The show is family friendly, but without any patronising idiocy. In fact, it’s just like a normal comedy club, but it’s on in the day, kids are allowed in, and thus there is a higher than usual chance of heckles like “why is that your face!?”.

 

Make Your Own Story Stones WED 22 FEB 10.30AM-12.30PM | COST £4.50

 

Story Stones are a fun way to help children explore their imagination and creativity. Each stone is decorated with an object or character and used individually to build a story, prompted by the picture on each one. They are a great tool to open up a magical world of adventures. In this session, you will decorate a set of 10 stones around a theme of your choice e.g. fairytales/space/animals/monsters/nature or random objects, and you will be given a lovely calico pouch to keep them in. We will have some inspirations for you to draw on or bring your own fantastical ideas. Anything is possible in the world of your imagination! Michael O’Leary ‘Hagstone Storyteller’ – Tales for The Young & Young At Heart | SUN 26 FEB 11am | TICKETS £7 PER CHILD INC 2 GROWN UPS

 

Come and join us as we celebrate ‘National Tell A Fairytale Day’ with local storyteller Michael O’Leary. A dynamic and warm storyteller, he will bring alive tales of adventure and mystery! In the first half of his session, he will be weaving a magical world of stories and inspiring the children (as well as their grown-ups!) In the second half, he will hold a tuition session for the adults, with tips and advice on how to develop your own inner ‘storyteller’, to help you with your own children. During this time, the children will have a chance to do a craft activity or read stories in our beautiful Gallery space.

Phil Beer is the multi-instrumental half of the west countryʼs award winning acoustic duo, Show of Hands, described as a true craftsman, a master musician and consummate performer. With a professional career of over 36 years, Phil has a great deal of material to draw on for his solo appearances. All are songs and music of memory and significance sung in the subtle and melodic Phil Beer style and interjected with musings and amusings to an almost personal audience.

Bookends perform the most authentic sounding tribute to the unforgettable music of Simon & Garfunkel. Made up of Dan Haynes & Pete Richards, Bookends have toured extensively with their concerts being described as ‘simply breathtaking’. Performing the songs in a truly captivating way, against a backdrop of images and video footage, their delicate recreation of the unmistakable sound of the American folk-rock duo is something of a masterpiece. Hear many of the hits such as ‘The Sound of Silence’, ‘Mrs Robinson’ and ‘The Boxer’ and Bookends’ own beautiful rendition of the unforgettable ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’. In a show encompassing national identity, hope, fear and live action democracy, he addresses diverse issues such as the past, the present, the future, body surfing and the unending volcano of confused fury that is modern global politics.

After his Fosters award-nominated, sell-out debut show, Adam Hess, star of Live at the BBC, is back and he’s cooler and taller than ever! He’s a funny guy, has good manners and no matter how dark or light it is when he leaves the cinema he’s always surprised. Don’t worry about it. Honestly, it’s fine. Just get a ticket to see Rhys James bash out another hour of splash-hit, classic stand-up and definitely cool and not pretentious poetry and all will be forgiven.

The Lost Songs of Fake Thackray FRI 31 MAR 8PM| TICKETS £12/£10

 

For the past three years John Watterson has been researching to write the first biography on the late Jake Thackray, with the help of Jake’s family, friends and fellow performers. In the course of this research, John has uncovered 15 songs written by Jake but never released. These songs, along with never-before told stories from the biography research (plus some much loved Jake classics) will feature in John’s 2017 tour.
