National Apprenticeship Week 2017 - Tom Howting

Sparsholt College Open Day celebrates National Apprenticeship Week

Sparsholt College is celebrating the tenth annual National Apprenticeship Week at their next Open Event on Saturday 11 March 2017, 10am to 2pm. As the largest college provider of Apprenticeships in Hampshire and West Surrey*, the College is highlighting the value of the gold standard in work-based learning to individuals, employers and the economy.

The Open Event is also ideal for those looking to explore full and part-time further and higher education courses. Whether a school leaver keen to develop advanced technical skills in the many land-based careers the College trains for, or someone ready to undertake a degree at Foundation, Undergraduate or Masters level, Sparsholt College and the University Centre Sparsholt are the region’s number one choice.

The College will have their team of Apprenticeship Liaison Officers on hand to provide expert advice for future apprentices in industries as diverse as horticulture, digital learning design or fisheries. Visitors will be talked through the process of finding and completing an apprenticeship, all with the on-going support of the Sparsholt team.

Danestream Farm Shop, an established butchery in the New Forest selling quality, free range produce is training butchery apprentice, Tom Howting.

Danestream owner Paul Brolan would highly recommend the Sparsholt Apprenticeship scheme to fellow businesses, saying:

Hiring an apprentice has enabled our local trade to expand, as well as inviting a vibrant, new member to join the team. Encouraging bright young adults to enter into this specialist industry is something I am very passionate about as it creates a different, positive dynamic that benefits the apprentice, the customers and ultimately, the business itself.

To support this, recent research shows that on average productivity to businesses is boosted by £214 per week where an Apprenticeship scheme is active. Apprenticeships not only offer a high standard of training and a set of formal qualifications – they also improve job prospects for trainees, with figures showing that qualified apprentices are considered to be 15% more employable than non-apprentices.

To explore your options with our Sparsholt experts, come along to the Open Day on Saturday 11 March 2017, 10am – 2pm. For more information, please call 01962 776441 or book a place now at www.sparsholt.ac.uk/opendays/
