Solar Panels

Solar panels help generate reusable energy

Around 80% of electricity used at Test Valley Borough Council’s Portway depot will soon be generated by solar power in a Council drive to become more energy efficient.

More than 200 solar panels will be installed on the roof of the authority’s Environmental Service at Portway Business Park. The site is home to the Council’s fleet of waste collection vehicles, vehicle servicing garage and team of environmental officers.

Environmental Portfolio Holder, Councillor Graham Stallard, said:

Solar panels are a fantastic tool to help us become more energy efficient. We are committed to showing proactive leadership on environmental matters in the community and this project is an excellent example of this approach.

Our Corporate Plan will soon include a new version of our Sustainability Strategy which we are looking forward to implementing via a range of new initiatives in the future. I am looking forward to the panels being installed and seeing how much money and energy we can save.”

The work is expected to complete in the summer
