Shake it up with the kids – keep active this summer

Families are being encouraged to keep their children and themselves moving this summer as part of the 10 Minute Shake Up campaign.

Hampshire County Council is supporting the national initiative to help kids keep active during the school holidays.

Councillor Patricia Stallard, Hampshire County Council’s Executive Member for Public Health, said:

Children love to run around, splash about in a swimming pool and ride their bikes. For them, being active is about having fun, but it also has a positive impact on children’s self esteem and emotional wellbeing, as well as their physical health. By signing up for a 10 Minute Shake Up pack, families will find lots of ideas to keep them active and entertained during the long break. Also, by visiting one of Hampshire’s country parks, children can get active outside whilst exploring lots of open spaces.

New for this year, the 10 Minute Shake Ups from Change4Life with Disney, focus on core skills such as running, jumping, throwing, catching and balance which can be completed at any time throughout the day, in 10 minute bursts.

Fun games and activities, including those for children with disabilities, inspired by characters from Disney Pixar’s Cars 3, and Disney’s Zootropolis, Beauty and The Beast, Moana, Frozen Fever and The Lodge, all aim  to help children reach the 60 minutes of activity they need every day.

Last year, the 10 Minute Shake Ups programme helped over a million children across the country get more active. When children return to school in September, more activities will be released on the Change4Life schools’ website to encourage them to carry on being active both in and outside the classroom throughout the year.
