Romsey Male Voice Choir’s third ‘Generations’ Concert at Romsey Abbey saw more than 170 young and not so young singers and musicians from the Choir and local schools raise more than £3500 for Romsey’s much-loved charities, Jane Scarth House and Romsey Young Carers. A further £1000 was donated to the participating schools.
As a charity itself, two of RMVC’s aims are to support good causes and give performance opportunities to young musical talent. This winning formula filled the Abbey on the night and gave a very welcome boost to the crucial work of the benefiting charities who gratefully received a cheques for over £1750 each from RMVC Chairman, Geoff Skinner.
Concert mastermind, RMVC member Alan Willsher, said the Choir was delighted with the sum raised.
This is a fantastic tribute to the hard work and talent of all our performers as well as the generosity of local sponsoring companies, including the Romsey Branch of Santander. We were all greatly moved by the videoed stories shown during the evening of cancer sufferer Jane and young carer Peter, and to hear their testimonies about the importance to them, and others like them, of Jane Scarth House and Romsey Young Carers. RMVC couldn’t be more pleased to be able do something tangible to help such deserving causes.
Romsey Male Voice Choir will be back at Romsey Abbey on 26 February taking part in the Mayor’s Charity Concert.
