Test Valley Borough Council has joined forces with Romsey Community School to set up a Computer Café to offer residents of Lockerley the chance to gain online IT skills such as creating email accounts, searching for jobs and applying for car tax renewals.
The free sessions run alongside the coffee shop at Lockerley Village Hall on the first and third Thursday of every month. Each session is run by volunteer mentors who have been recruited from the local community for their skills and experience. Attendees will have the opportunity to seek help with general computer enquiries or use the sessions to take advantage of job hunting advice and techniques.
Economic Portfolio Holder, Councillor Peter Giddings said;
The Computer Café has been set up to help residents improve their general IT skills and job hunting techniques. Similar schemes have worked really well in other parts of the borough so we are pleased to be rolling this out in Lockerley. We have joined forces with the coffee shop, which is open throughout the duration of the sessions, to help raise awareness about the support on offer to local residents.
Attendees are welcome to bring their own tablet or laptop with them, but free access to a public computer and wifi will be available for those who need it. All the sessions will run from 10am to 12pm and do not need to be booked in advance.
