Planning your Wedding day, your way!

There’s a lot to organise, lots of decisions and lots to remember! So here’s 5 tips which may help you to arrange the perfect wedding – that’s if you cannot afford to pay for a Wedding Planner to do it for you…

1. Use a Wedding Planner App and/or Wedding Diary Wedding Planner Apps for those with smart phones or tablets could be a real resource, as all the possible options that you might need are laid out for you and are just waiting for you to personalise them. Many have alarms to remind you to do something, notes to keep you on track plus places for all the important contact numbers, budgeting, guest lists and seating arrangements. Apps available are both free and paid, so which one you choose is up to your personal preference but remember you may still need a place to keep your invoices and receipts. For those without such technology, buying a suitable Wedding Planner diary could be a life saver for organising everything – they vary in price but of course if you are thinking about keeping it as a memento you may want to invest in one with a really strong binder!

2. Use Pinterest for ideas (https://uk.pinterest.com) If you are technically minded then Pinterest might be a great way to look at pictures of suitable attire and décor. You can start a page to pin pictures to, from ones that catch your eye which may be pictures of wedding dresses, suits, shoes, makeup, hairstyles to décor like flower arrangements, table centrepieces, wedding stationary and more. This can really be helpful to decide what you like and don’t like! Pinterest can allow you to have many boards for different reasons, so you could organise the board names for different aspects of the wedding planning. Another great function is that boards allow you to invite people by email to contribute, so you can ask bridesmaids and friends to join certain pages and your bride or groom can be added to other pages; with the added option to keep boards private (ie. not online) you can keep certain things under wraps (for instance wedding dress ideas). Some pictures link to practical ideas that can help you especially if you only have a small budget and you are wanting to try to do as much as possible on a DIY basis. Plus, you can also use Pinterest to collect snaps of your big day taken by others, by inviting guests to a designated page to upload their photos afterwards!

3. Organised gift list or not? Obviously this decision is down to you and whether you already have most household items. If you are just starting out, any gifts are a bonus plus and if you ask for gift receipts – then nowadays if you have any duplicates you can exchange them really easily for something you’d like or really need. There are many shops who you can arrange your wedding gift list with online and this may be something you personally feel is the best way to go. However, for some the spontaneity of leaving the decision to your guests might appeal, as like Forest Gump said ‘Life is like a box of chocolates and you never know what you’re going to get!’ You may receive a gift which you were not expecting that has a sentimental tie or one that is really nice that serves as a memorable keepsake that may make opening your presents that extra bit special!

4. Think about going local Using these services, not only means you can contribute to the local economy but also means that usually someone you know or an acquaintance of theirs can give you a fair minded review of each service available. Recommendations can sometimes be a good way to aid your final decision as well as cost of course! – that you’ll find can be either more reasonable due to locality or more expensive. However, there’s a lot to be said about a personalised service as it can be more desirable than saving a few pounds by using a major chain. Service with a smile, attention to detail and in a bespoke manner can mean you feel that they truly contributed to your special day in a way you envisaged. The best way to see a variety of these services in one day is at local Wedding fair/ fayre and/or Open Day at local wedding venues, where you’ll find many different exhibitors showcasing what they have to offer. It’s a good way to make a connection and collect business cards – to help you remember who was who, you may decide to write something down on the back of this information to jog your memory later!

5. Think Reuse, Reduce, Recycle To help to save both money and time you could reuse certain things – sometimes these donations from friends and family can mean it then has a sentimental link to other weddings of people you love and care for or links to the past. It then becomes a traditional item shared at these occasions and a treasured object to hand down to future generations. If you are aware of environmental issues you may like to look into certain aspects to reduce the amount that goes to waste and consequently you may like the idea of the ultimate green wedding. If so, there are some excellent ideas on the internet to make your own rustic decorations from all manner of things you’d never expect with surprisingly beautiful and elegant results. Another idea that is becoming fashionable is that wedding favours that are used to make a donation to charity that is close to your heart (as a couple) or the families in lieu of small gifts, however sometimes they may contain a small keepsake (sometimes a charity pin or band). It is becoming popular due to the good feeling of a ‘random act of kindness’ can bring to your day – knowing that the celebration of your love can go on to help others.

Whatever you decide to do for your Wedding day is up to you. Try though, not to get hung up, stressing yourself organising every step, remember some things may simply be down to fate and c’est la vie – whatever will be, will be!
