Planning for new homes in Calmore

New Forest District Council has submitted an application for planning permission to build 35 one and two-bedroom council homes in Calmore, Totton. If granted permission the development of flats would be the largest new build project the council has embarked on in approximately 25 years. The project would be fully funded by the council.

The application seeks to build in the grounds of existing council-owned accommodation at Sarum House and Compton House on Blackwater Drive. The proposed development includes 35 flats in two blocks, a carport, bin and cycle stores, parking, public open space and new landscaping. The new homes would be built to top environmental standards, offering high-energy efficiency and ensuring that tenants will benefit from reduced energy bills.

The proposal is part of the council’s housing strategy to address the New Forest’s affordable housing need, where more than 4,100 households are on the council’s housing waiting list. If granted planning permission the new homes will be offered to residents on the council’s Homesearch register.
