The demolition of the swimming pool building at Andover Leisure Centre is progressing on schedule, with the bridge adjoining the wetside and dryside buildings now dismantled. Heavy demolition of the sports hall building is due to commence in late July.
Materials from the demolition of the old building will be recycled where possible as Pellikaan Construction are part of the Considerate Constructors Scheme.
As the old swimming pool is demolished the temporary pool installation in Shepherds Spring Car Park is taking shape and is on schedule for a late August opening with foundations and the building framework already in place.
Ian Souch, Manager, Andover Leisure Centre:
Demolition of the wetside building has commenced, and we look forward to offering customers the full compliment of activities again when the temporary pool opens. Swim School is due to restart in September and customers who were having lessons at the closure can now rebook. I would like to thank our customers for their patience.
West Street Car Park will be closed for public use for up to 2 years. This is to enable an area for vehicles and equipment to be moved on and off the building site. The building work also means that there are redirections in place for pedestrian access routes as agreed with Test Valley Borough Council Highways.
Andover Leisure Centre is still open and the Gym, Studios and Squash Courts are now accessed through the Cafe and Merlin’s Kingdom, Studio 4 has been relocated on the ground floor off the cafe. There is still lift access to all floors.
