Monthly Gardening Tips; February

I hope you’ve enjoyed a good start to the New Year. The first half of this Winter has been warm, windy and wet, so warm in fact that many of our gardens have got ‘confused’ with spring bulbs starting to appear. Where possible you can mulch around the new growth to protect from the frosts that will surely come at some stage.

If the wind has caused damage then try to get your fence panels repaired as promptly as possible and make sure any fallen containers and plants are picked back up. Avoid pots getting waterlogged by making sure the drainage holes are clear and the pots are raised above ground level.

For those of you eager to get outside and start preparing the ground, there is no harm digging over borders as long as the ground isn’t frozen, however delay the spring and summer planting for now. Plan for the year ahead The days are getting longer and it’s the ideal time to think about any changes you might want to see in the garden, perhaps some new plants, or maybe a major cutback of overgrown areas!

You can also get ready for the months ahead by clearing out your shed or garage and getting all of your garden tools, supplies and containers in order. Maybe you have no big plans but just want a tidy garden without the hard work! I can offer a regular grass cutting service in and around the Andover area.
