Mayor of Test Valley, Councillor Iris Andersen, joined staff and patients to celebrate the third anniversary of the launch of mobile chemotherapy unit, Amy, at Andover War Memorial Hospital on 14 September.
Provided by charity Hope for Tomorrow and run by staff from Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the mobile unit helps to bring cancer treatment closer to home and enables patients to receive treatment without the need to travel long distances or wait in busy hospitals.
Mayor of Test Valley, Councillor Iris Andersen, said:
It was a real privilege to visit the unit and meet the patients and staff. It was moving to hear first hand the difference that accessing treatment closer to home can make. I am so pleased that this service is offered in Andover
The Mayor also opened Test Valley Borough Council’s MacMillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning on Friday 25 September, which saw employees across the council bake and buy a huge variety of cakes.
The Mayor added:
Everyone did a fantastic job making hundreds of delicious cakes and goodies and I was delighted to be able to open the event. It was lovely to see everyone come together for such a great cause.
