Women in Picket Twenty and surrounding areas in Andover are being supported to get back on their bikes as part of British Cycling’s Breeze programme which aims to get more women riding bikes for fun and fitness.
A series of three free coaching sessions are on offer with qualified female coaches on Friday mornings from 30th September, in partnership with the local Pilgrim’s Cross C of E Aided Primary School and Picket Twenty Community Association.
We already run a lot of women-only Breeze cycle rides from our shop on the Weyhill Road, said Maxine Hornby of Abbotts Ann Cycles. But we know there are women who don’t have the confidence to sign up to a ride with us. We hope these sessions will leave those who participate in the coaching sessions more likely to feel they can join us on one of our steady social rides.
The Friday mornings will suit those who maybe haven’t cycled in a while, want to find new routes, or want to learn new skills and get some tips, and will include some time off the road, before heading out for a short ride. The aim is that women will feel more confident to ride for their own leisure, or to get from a to b, including on the school run.
