Calling all teachers! Trench 1 Archaeology and the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens would like to invite you to a FREE history twilight session on September 20th from 16.30 – 18.30pm.
Come and explore how we teach the Stone Age to the Iron Age, the Romans and the Anglo-Saxons through archaeology, and pick up some hints and tips to bring your British history topics to life.
Last year the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens launched three new curriculum-linked, history-themed KS2 workshops in association with local firm Trench 1 Archaeology. These are Surviving the Stone Age, the Riveting Romans and the Super Saxons.
Taught in the great outdoors, each session involves handling artefacts, digging for finds in a trench and a little bit of dressing up. After lunch around the fire we break into small groups to undertake some seriously Stone Age, really Roman or suitably Saxon activities to get hands-on with heritage, including cooking an appropriate snack on the fire.
Our school trips step outside of the twenty-first century to take children back into the past for the day, and on September 20th we want teachers to be able to enjoy this too.Our free twilight session will provide an introduction to the three workshops, before we head into the woods to undertake our own archaeological dig. Whilst we get muddy, the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens’ team will get the fire lit for our post-dig snack, which you will have to cook yourself over the open fire. Toasting forks at the ready!
Please come and let us inspire you in this engaging, hands-on twilight session, which is entirely free of charge, taught at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens, Jermyn’s Lane, Romsey.
