The first half term of the year is almost upon us and The Lights has a packed programme to keep children entertained and occupied this February.
Storytelling, arts and crafts, dance, drama and children’s theatre all feature, for children from 2 to 11 years of age.
Judith Kerr’s classic tale of The Tiger who Came to Tea is the inspiration for the first workshop on Monday, 20 February at 1pm with tutor Amanda. Children aged 2-5 can make their very own tiger mask and then help to recreate the story with music and movement. Earlier workshops at 9.30am and 11am are SOLD OUT.
Tuesday 21 February there is a morning BFG modelling workshop for ages 5-10, encouraging children to explore giant country with the BFG and make a model of a giant to take home.
For those who love to dance there are two Strictly Sensations workshops on Tuesday, 21 (7-11) and Thursday, 23 February (ages 5-7), learning how to salsa and jive your socks off! Or for little ones between 2-4 years old there is a fun party tunes dance workshop on Friday, 24 February – Shake Your Tail Feather at 10.30am.
Or finish the week off with Over the Rainbow – Play in a Day from 10am-3pm on Friday for ages 7-11. It’s Dorothy’s sleepover and she can’t get to sleep. When a storm comes she finds herself in Oz with the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion and all the characters from her favourite film. Come and join her adventure and perform to your family and friends on The Lights stage at the end of the day.
For a fabulous treat which will stimulate imaginations you can also visit The Lights for family friendly theatre this half term. On Wednesday, 22 February the highly acclaimed Rhubarb Theatre are back with Granny’s Game, an adventure story based on the real-life heroism of journalist and explorer Nellie Bly. Suitable for ages 5+ this amazing tale is all about travel, adventure and one surprising Grandma!
Encourage creativity, activity and the power of children’s imaginations this February with a visit to The Lights.
