Augusta Park Community Centre

Exciting new artworks commissioned for Augusta Park

Two new public artworks will be created for Augusta Park in Andover – and the local community are being asked for their input.

Award winning public artists Bernie Rutter and Denis O’Connor of Sculpture Works have been commissioned by Test Valley Borough Council to create the artworks. Members of the community are invited to come and meet them on Saturday 23rd September between 2pm and 5:30pm at the Augusta Park Community Centre to look at examples of work and discuss ideas for the project.

They create dynamic site-specific ‘landmark’ sculptures that capture the essence of each place and audience they work with. Over the last twenty five years they have produced artworks for both urban and rural sites within the private and public sectors in the UK and Ireland.

Between them they have worked with a variety of organisations including the National Trust,  City Councils, retail outlets, and housing providers.

Leisure Portfolio Holder, Councillor Tony Ward said:

This is the first event for the East Anton Public Art project and we want people in the community to come along and tell us what kind of public art they want.

It follows a successful similar commission for Augusta Open Space,  which encouraged the East Anton community to get involved with their environment. This was done  through a variety of creative projects from geo-cache treasure hunts and creative walks to hands on workshops and homework projects.

The public art project is funded by developer contributions for public art from Taylor Wimpey for the East Anton site. The commission is valued at £73,000.
