Donna McCormack, estates and facilities manager at Andover War Memorial Hospital, won the Services award at the annual Pride of Andover Awards.
Donna, who is a well-known figure at the hospital, received the award for regularly going above and beyond, doing whatever needs doing to ensure that the hospital continues to play a key role in the local community.
She received her award from television presenter Dame Esther Rantzen and says she was shocked to come out on top.
It was a bit nerve-wracking going up on the stage, but I was really pleased to win the award, Donna said. It didn’t sink in that I had won straight away.
I really care about the hospital and as far as I am concerned, this award is not just for me, it’s for everyone at Andover War Memorial Hospital.
I’d like to thank colleagues in the trust for nominating me. I like the fact that senior staff in the trust really take an interest in what is happening on the ground in the hospitals. Colleagues taking the time to nominate me says a lot about the trust as a whole.
Also present on the evening was Alan Jones, who volunteers in the audiology department, visiting patients in nursing homes around the town to service hearing aids. He was highly commended for the Heart of Gold Award.
Alan said:
I was delighted to be recognised like this but there are four of us who do the same work for the audiology department and it really is a team effort, so I plan to share it with them.
