Romsey Boxing Day Car Meet

Celebrity Chef James Martin joins the people of Romsey for Boxing Day Car meet in aid of Prostate Cancer UK

Romsey’s Annual Boxing Day Pre 1976 Car & Bike Meet (Pre 76 Euro / Pre 86 American & Hot Rods ) was again looked upon by the weather gods, with a brief interlude from all the rain on Xmas day and the days following. The fine weather undoubtedly helped once again bring about an amazing eclectic array of classic cars & motorbikes that visit the 4hr event each year, an eclectic mix that many visitors say is not seen at other such events.

Spectators turned out in equally huge numbers to see nearly every British car marque represented and also some exquisite and very rare model cars and bikes such as an Alfa Romeo Montreal, a beautiful 30s Aston Martin Lagonda and a 30s Packard Sports Phaeton to name just a few. Celebrity chef James Martin emailed the organiser, local barber Steve Biddlecombe, asking if he could once again visit with some of his cars ( James last visited in 2012 ) and turned up in a stunning 1965 275 Ferrari, an equally stunning Ferrari Daytona and also Paddy Hopkirk’s ex works Mini Cooper.

Even with 3 car parks the event is massively over subscribed, seeing some 6 – 700 cars visit and 200 plus motorbikes each year and this year was no exception with the SORRY FULL signs soon up and the town then filling up with classics. Strict enforcement of the year classifications on the motorbike park, saw the best representation of classic UK bikes and early Japanese classics the event has ever seen.To date £3400 has been collected for the event’s charity, PROSTATE CANCER UK and the collection remains open until end of January, so if you missed the 30 collection tins, you can still donate here.
