Cameo Andover donation

Cameo’s Charity role to support Mothers and Babies

Andover club Cameo has made a £4,945 donation for special monitoring equipment to help mothers and babies and go towards restoring a local service in the town.

Howard Cooper, general manager of the London Street venue, presented the grant from its company’s Echo Trust charity to the Hampshire Hospitals Maternity Centre, formerly the Andover Birth Centre.

The donation will fund scanning equipment to help pregnant women check on the health of their unborn babies if they have any concerns. Mothers-to-be from Andover would otherwise have to travel to Winchester or Basingstoke.

Some of the money will also be used for portable equipment for midwives to use to monitor the health of newborn babies delivered in the community.

Howard Cooper said:

The donation is a way we can give something back. We hold regular collections at the club and our customers are always generous. We nominated the Maternity Centre to benefit because of the amazing care and support it provides to local families.

Jo Fairhurst, community midwifery manager for Hampshire Hospitals
Maternity Centre, said:

We are very grateful to Cameo and the Echo Trust for this donation which will go towards supporting the re-establishment of a day assessment unit for mums-to-be in Andover.

It will make a huge difference to women in terms of convenience and aims to give them the reassurance that their babies are well and in doing so avoid unnecessary travel to Winchester or Basingstoke. This is particularly important when women do not have the means to travel.

Cameo is part of The Deltic Group, the UK’s largest operator of late night bars and clubs, which employs 3000 people across its 59 venues. Since 2002 when Deltic set up the Echo Trust it has raised more than £2.5 million to grant awards to local children’s charities.
