Calling all skaters!

Skaters in Andover can learn new tricks and meet skateboarding experts at the Inspire Skate Jam on Saturday, 22 April.

Specialist skate park developer, Maverick, will host the jam at the Smannell Road urban sports facility from 12pm to 4pm and will entertain guests with impressive skating demonstrations and music. Skaters, bikers and scooter riders of all ages will be able to take part and show off their stunts for the chance to win great prizes.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Ian Carr, said:

We are delighted to welcome Maverick back to Andover to host the skate jam. The event will be a great opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy the facility, as well as engage with local organisations that offer events and activities that young people can get involved in.

Re-Wired  and i61 youth groups, Andover Youth Council and the local neighbourhood police will host activities and challenges including a bouncy castle and a welly-throwing competition. They will also be on hand to offer advice on staying safe online. There will be activities for younger children, and free refreshments provided by Andover Churches Together.

Anyone who wishes to attend the event can turn up on the day to watch or take part in the fun. Participants are advised to wear appropriate protective clothing and helmets, and to be mindful of other users to ensure the event is an enjoyable and safe activity. Search #inspireAndover on Facebook for more details about the games and activities that will be on offer.

The urban sports facility opened in November 2014 and was funded by developer contributions and the Council’s new homes bonus reserve. For more information about the skate jam, contact Test Valley Borough Council on 01264 368000.
