MP Kit Malthouse welcomes Broadband Investment in Andover

Portway Business Park and Walworth Business Park in Andover are to be included in Virgin Media’s ultrafast broadband rollout as part of the £3 billion Project Lightning network expansion. At speeds of 300Mbps this will be fastest broadband available in the UK.

To get the word out and provide businesses with the opportunity to learn more, Virgin Media will be holding two breakfast events to promote the new ultrafast service and businesses from the two parks are welcome to attend.

These events will take place on Wednesday 27th July at 7.30am until 9am at Walworth Enterprise Centre, Duke Close, West Way, Andover, SP10 5AP and on Thursday 28th July at 7.30am until 9am at Portway Football Stadium, Portway West Business Park, Andover, SP10 3LF.

Any business wishing to attend should RSVP to David Gleave of Test Valley Borough Council at Dgleave@testvalley.gov.uk

Kit Malthouse, MP for North West Hampshire, welcomed the investment.

High speed broadband is essential in the 21st Century and slow, unreliable is the most common thing that my constituents contact me about. It’s vital to help businesses grow and compete and for people to do basic tasks in the countryside. We’re phenomenally lucky in the UK to have prosperous and flourishing economies away from big cities when in other countries ‘rural’ often means ‘poor’. To keep this up Government has to work with companies like Virgin Media to get all businesses connected. Reintroducing the old broadband voucher scheme for businesses as the Committee in Parliament recently recommended would be a great start.

Daniel Butler of Virgin Media was very also positive about the investment noting that;

The investment from Virgin Media will greatly improve businesses digital capacity and help attract more digitally-driven businesses to areas previously underserved by the broadband market.
